Port Rowing competed in the Navy Day Regatta in Philadelphia on Saturday, Oct. 10, and returned with fantastic results. The varsity boy’s top 4-man boat bested the field by seven seconds to take home the first-place finish. Rowers Aaron Bosgang, Adam Lyman, Declan DePietro and Yuval Philipson, led by coxswain Lucas Alcaraz, had a strong, dominating race and demonstrated a winning attitude representing Port Rowing in its first-ever win at the Navy Day Regatta.
The second boys’ varsity 4-person boat finished ahead of 15 teams to place in the middle of the pack. The JV 8-person boat beat out seven other boats on the Schuylkill River in the first varsity race for many of the rowers. In a tight and tough field, the boys varsity 8-person competed against 24 boats and beat 10 of those teams to finish 15th. The coed freshman/novice team raced in the JV Division and beat several boats on their way down the course for their first regatta as high school rowers.
All three of the girls’ varsity boats finished within or near the top 10 of each race. The girls’ 2nd varsity 8-person boat recorded a 5th place out of 28 entries. They performed with great technique, rhythm and power.
To finish off the day for the girls, the varsity 8-person boat competed against the top boats from 22 programs. They rowed to an 8th-place finish.
