Children’s author and 1989 Carle Place High School graduate Alicia Hogan Murphy recently visited Cherry Lane School to share a very special story with the students and reunite with a former teacher. As a second-grader at Cherry Lane, Murphy’s teacher had been Maureen Flynn, now known as Mrs. Convey, who fostered Murphy’s great talent of writing.
Murphy spoke to the students about how, despite it taking 36 years to come true, writing was always her dream. During her presentation, she took students through her first book and had them role-play the characters from The Muddy Foot Prince. She also shared some insight into the book, such as the fact that since she was and is a Carle Place Frog, she had her illustrator include a frog on every page.
