In what has become a Memorial Day tradition, members of the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce will be giving away hand-held American flags to parade-goers who attend Port’s Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30.
Chamber of Commerce Copresidents Warren Schein and Mitch Schwartz said, “This is the 37th consecutive year that Chamber volunteers precede the parade and hand out over 3,000 free flags. Everyone in the Chamber is very proud of this effort and we have a
lot of people who
are helping.”
In order to keep this tradition going, the Chamber’s 2016 Flag Fund Drive has received financial support from its members and others. The major donor is Precision Work, Inc.
Others donors are: Alf’s Roofing, Anchor Audio, Austin F. Knowles, Inc. Funeral Home, Friends of Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, Greco Integrated Communications, Dr. William and Mayor Nora Haagenson, The Nicholas Center for Autism, Port Washington PBA, Ilene Silberstein, Spectrum Designs, Sullivan’s Quay and Kenneth R. Tuch, Esq.
Additional donations are needed to ensure that this hometown tradition can continue.
Anyone who can make a donation for the flags should send it to: The Port Washington Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 121, Port Washington, NY, 11050, and note Flag Fund on the check.
Come to Main Street on May 30 to honor our wonderful veterans. You will be rewarded by the heartwarming sight of friends and neighbors, young and old, waving their flags as the proud veterans in the parade pass by.
