Howard and Jordan Fensterman have been longtime, active, generous members of the Chabad Port Washington community. The tribute to “father and son” has been dubbed “Dor L’Dor”—generation to generation—honoring the continued commitment of both Fenstermans to Chabad’s work and to charitable activities in general.

Chabad will also be honoring Fern Cohen with the Woman of Valor Award. Fern Cohen has been an exceptionally supportive, longtime member of the community.

Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, chairman of Chabad World Headquarters, will be the honored guest speaker. Rabbi Krinsky oversees more than 4,000 Chabad centers worldwide and was named by Newsweek as “the most influential Rabbi in America” in 2010.

Today, Chabad’s center is home to a flourishing Jewish community with educational, religious and social programs for adults and children of all ages. Chabad of Port Washington is also home to a very active gymnasium, serving over 200 children and adults each week from all faiths and all walks of life. Chabad of Port Washington, founded in 1991 by Rabbi Shalom and Sara Paltiel, is nurtured and supported by concerned members of communities on Long Island’s North Shore. Chabad is dedicated to the reestablishment and strengthening of our Judaic faith, principles, identity, commitment and pride. According to Rabbi Shalom Paltiel, “The support and generosity of our local Jewish community in Port Washington along with the broader support from both Jewish and non-Jewish in town has been extraordinary. When Sara and I began Chabad of Port Washington in 1991, we started with nothing. Truthfully, we never dreamed of the love and support this community has given us. And we hope we’ve, in turn, made our contributions to the community. We are so grateful to everyone who has helped build Chabad for the past 25 years, and we commit ourselves to do even more in the next quarter century in terms of Chabad’s contribution to the Port community.”
