The annual Chinese-American Night took over Eisenhower Park in early August. Led by the Chinese Center on Long Island, more than 3,000 people headed to one of Nassau County’s most beautiful areas for a night of fun.
This year’s event was “lively and wonderful,” according to the Chinese Center on Long Island. The attendees came together, relaxing comfortably on the lawn to enjoy the event.
It featured a two-hour performance, starring the Lion Troupe, New York Chinese Chorus, Sitan Chinese Martial Arts, electric violinists, CCLI Guzheng Ensemble, Cao Bao An Chinese Orchestra, Colors of the Wind Dance Troupe and the CCLI Chinese Traditional Dance group.
The Chinese Center on Long Island also honored several local citizens, including Levittown’s Peggy Chan, who runs the first Chinese-based adult daycare center on Long Island. She is the director and co-owner of the Happy Hearts Social Adult Daycare Center in Mineola.
“Chan believes that all senior citizens, regardless of race, creed or circumstance, should be treated well,” the Chinese Center on Long Island said in a statement about Chan. “She has been nominated for a spotlight in the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners spring 2019 e-publication.”
Nassau County officials were in attendance for the August event, showing their support for the Chinese-Americans who call Long Island home. Among those honored were Yang Zeng, Dr. Wai Wong, Mo Chen, Rong Hu, Xiaode Yang, Shirley Chow, Peibao Chen and New York State Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso.
