Two MacArthur Baseball Players Named to All-State Team
In 1997, the New York State Sportswriters began to honor New York’s high school baseball players by announcing an All-State team. Since then, several MacArthur players have earned this prestigious honor – Bill Hoffman, Rich McGuire, Justin Anderson, Jason McCorry, Chris Sipp, Dan Horvat, Joe Culen, Steve McQuail, and Tyler Savin.
For the 2009 season, two MacArthur players joined this elite company. Frankie Vanderka and John Krause were both named All-State, joining Chris Sipp and Dan Horvat as the only pair of teammates to be named in the same year. Frankie pitched and played left field for the Generals, leading MacArthur in most offensive categories and pitching very well. John pitched and also served as designated hitter, winning 9 games without a loss as MacArthur was the only team on Long Island to finish the regular season undefeated. John is now pitching for Hofstra on a baseball scholarship, and Frankie is back for the Generals for his senior season.

MacArthur Alumni Justin Moore Earns Baseball All-American Honors
Justin Moore, a pitcher who graduated from MacArthur High School in 2008, had an outstanding freshman season at Dominican College. Justin earned All-League honors for the MacArthur Generals in 2008, helping lead MacArthur to the Nassau County Finals. In his first year at Dominican, Justin became the team’s closer, and responded by leading the nation in saves with 17. Not only did this break the single season school record for saves, it also set the career mark. For his outstanding season, Justin was honored as a Division II All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. In addition, Justin was named Conference Rookie of the Year, All-Conference First Team, and East All-Region First Team. MacArthur Coach Steve Costello was thrilled that Justin had such a remarkable freshman year, saying, “Justin Moore is exactly the kind of young man that we value in the MacArthur baseball program. Not only is he an excellent player, but more importantly he is an outstanding young man. His work ethic and attitude make him a great example for our young players to emulate. Myself and Coach Causeman (Mac Arthur Varsity Assistant) could not be happier for Justin.” This marks the second year in a row that a former MacArthur player earned an All-American spot, as last year Mike Gerdes of St. Joseph’s College was honored.
