The Island Trees Boys Varsity soccer team has just completed another successful season and are headed to the 2009 playoffs. They competed in League ABC2, which traditionally produces the county finalists.
The season was filled with close exciting games that usually produced a winner within the last five minutes. The Bulldogs ended up tied for the final play-off seed in the league tied with Great Neck North and Roosevelt. Due to the Bulldogs stingy defense, Island Trees won the tie-breaker and entered the play-offs as the 10th seed.
The defense consisted of goalies Tom Enders, Kyle Schamberger and Alex Reckling. The defense was held together with Pat Lehosky, Guiseppe Ferraro, Bill Kuch, Tyler Walsh, Tom Stienwall, Mike Mangeneillo and Brian Manning. The offense was explosive with goals being scored by Nick Jorge, Andrew Willoughby, Anthony Leonick, Nick DeVecchis, John Duffy and eighth grader Adonis Martinez.
