Letter: Arizona’s Immigration Law Enforces Existing Laws

(This letter is in response to a column printed in the May 21, 2010 issue of the Levittown Tribune, entitled “Arizona’s Draconian Immigration Law Reverberates Everywhere.”)

Having read Maryann Sinclair Slutsky’s column on May 21 on Arizona’s new immigration law, I can only assume she has not read it, as our Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano did not, yet they all chase to comment on it.

Ms. Slutsky warns people if they go for a jog or to play golf, they better have their id on them or the police can stop them and demand to see their id.

Ms. Slutsky should take the time to read the bill or listen to the news that explains the bill. A person will only be asked to show their id in Arizona after they are stopped for another infraction of the law.

Arizona has applied to the government for help with the immigration problem. The state has over half a million illegal immigrants living there. It is the kidnapping capital of the world. Drugs keep pouring in to infect our children and one of their ranchers was murdered. This is a state crying for help.

Lets not turn our backs on Arizona; instead lets help our fellow American citizens of Arizona and write our congress people to get the wall up and work on the immigration problem.
