At the NYS Military Service Recognition Awards Ceremony on Friday, July 16, Assemblyman David McDonough honored 14 men for their selfless service to their country. Several men who were unable to attend will be given their medals at their homes or at McDonough’s office.
Below are the men who were given medals.
-Lionel Bauman from Baldwin served in the Army during the Vietnam War from June 1968 to June 1972 and received several medals for his service. At this event he received the NYS Medal of Merit and the NYS Conspicuous Service Star Medal.
-Roy Bronnekant from Levittown served in Vietnam and received several medals for his service. At this event he was awarded the NYS Medal of Merit as well as his high school diploma.
-Richard Henry Buseck, served in the Navy for eight years in the Korean and Vietnam wars, and received several medals for his service. At this event he received the NYS Medal of Merit.
-John James Clarke from Seaford served in the Army during the Korean War, receiving several medals for his service. At this event he received the NYS Medal of Merit.
-Richard DeLucia from Levittown served in the Coast Guard, receiving several medals for his service. At this event he was awarded the NYS Medal of Merit and the NYS Conspicuous Service Star Medal.
-Peter Galante from Seaford served in the Army, receiving several medals for his service. At this event he received the NYS Medal of Merit.
-Alfred Garbarino from Merrick served in the Army Reserves for 14 years, completing a 13-month tour in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He received several medals for his service. At this event he received the NYS Service Cross Medal.
-Harold Heitner from Wantagh served for two years in Germany during the Berlin Airlift and received several awards for his service. At this event he received the NYS Medal of Merit.
-Peter Kuchar from Bellmore served in the Army during the Vietnam War from September 1969 to September 1975, receiving several medals for his service. At this event he received the NYS Medal of Merit and the NYS Conspicuous Service Star Medal.
-Peter Plaia from Levittown served in the 290th infantry during WWII from July 1944 to May 1946. He received the Purple Heart, among other medals for his service. At this event he received the NYS Conspicuous Service Star Medal.
-Frank Priebe from Merrick served in the Naval Reserve from 1968 to 1971, receiving several medals for his service. At this event he received the NYS Medal of Merit.
-Henry Sandlein from Wantagh served in the Army during WWII, receiving several awards for his service. At this event he received the NYS Conspicuous Service Star Medal.
-William Starke from Bellmore served in Air Force from February 1949 to October 1952, receiving several awards for his service. At this event he received the NYS Medal of Merit.
-John Waluk from Levittown served in the Army during the Vietnam War, receiving several medals for his service. At this event he received the NYS Conspicuous Service Star Medal and the NYS Medal of Merit.
