Over six hundred runners and walkers made their way to Oyster Bay for the 27th annual edition of the Oyster Bay Town Supervisor’s 5 Kilometer Run. A clear, crisp autumn morning made conditions perfect for a very competitive event!
Chris Mammone of Massapequa (15:21) outlasted Matt Walsh of Wantagh (15:33) to score his second consecutive win in the Oyster Bay Run, earning himself the $500 winner-take-all prize graciously provided by Bob Cook and The Runner’s Edge.
This year The Runner’s Edge came up with a $500 prize for the first woman as well, and Leo Petrina of Bayport responded with a race record-breaking 17:14 finish, 18 seconds in front of Meagan Krifchin of Bellmore.
The highly competitive field could boast of the first 14 finishers (including the first three women) under 18 minutes, and 53 finishers breaking the magic 20-minute mark. Mammone was the first Town of Oyster Bay resident to cross the finish line and fellow Massapequan Michele Grieco earned the Award as the first female TOBAY resident to finish. Michele also took first place honors in the women’s 20-24 age group.
Leading the way for Levittown was 26-year-old Jodie Schoppmann, who scored as the third woman overall with a time of 17:56, Erin Silvering-Grey, who was the 7th woman overall and 1st in the 30-34 age group in 18:53, Bill Fisher, who scored 3rd in the 55-59 age group with a time of 19:06, and Michelle Henschel, who was the 10th woman finisher overall and took home the first place award in the 25-29 age group.
