The MacArthur Boys Basketball team upped its winning streak to four games and moved within a game of clinching its first playoff berth in three years with victories against East Meadow and Hicksville.
The Generals (8-4, 6-1 league) beat East Meadow, 48-39, on Tuesday, Jan. 18 behind 15 points from junior forward Kevin Roach and 11 points from junior guard William Cheshire.
MacArthur then improved its record to 5-0 at home and swept the season series from Hicksville with a 50-44 win against the Comets. Senior guard Kevin Monahan had 26 points in that victory; narrowly shy of matching the career-high 28 points he scored against Mepham as a sophomore.
MacArthur, which has five regular-season games remaining, can clinch a playoff berth with a victory at Plainview JFK on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. A win in that game also would set up a rematch with unbeaten Baldwin with a share of first place at stake on Friday, Feb. 4 at 6:15 p.m. at MacArthur.
Baldwin handed MacArthur its lone conference loss, 76-54, on Friday, Jan. 7 and has won its league games by an average of 31 points.
