Buy A Brick, Help A Vet

The 2nd Annual Brick 26 Challenge will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Cedar Creek Park in Wantagh, benefitting local veterans through donations to two local service organizations, Boots On The Ground NY, and Semper4Veterans.

Participants will be strapping on their backpacks and carrying up to five bricks over the four-mile obstacle course, and also through a 5K to symbolically honor local veteran heroes and their sacrifices to this country. The bricks are being reserved for a monument being created for Eisenhower Park’s Veterans’ Plaza. For those who wish to participate, they can expect an energy-packed day as veterans suit up and become the drill sergeants at each of the bootcamp stops along the obstacle course. The obstacle course includes wall climbing, tunnel crawling, and hill sprints, and more. Spectators are welcome. Inscribed brick donations are available at www.brick26.org. Visit the website for event registration. In addition, more than 30 volunteers are still needed for manning the routes and helping throughout the day. Veteran motorcycle riders are also wanted for the start and finish lines, with their bikes to help motivate runners. Email: frankb@bootsonthegroundny.com for volunteer information.
