The Town of North Hempstead unanimously passed a resolution at the August 12 Town Board meeting designating Maplewood Drive in New Cassel with the honorary street name “Marvin Leon Johnson Sr. Way”.

Marvin Leon Johnson Sr., who passed away on May 16th at the age of 48, lived a life that inspired thousands of people.  A true community leader, Johnson spent his entire life in New Cassel and was known for bringing people together through his love of music.

Councilwoman Viviana Russell said, “Marvin was a great servant to the community. I am glad that after all of the years of him not only saying ‘I got your back’ but actually upholding his word through words and deeds that we are able to honor his legacy and family in this way.”

His family attended the meeting to accept the honor and his brother Ivan delivered a memorable speech, in which he recalled what a terrific member of society Marvin was.  An official unveiling of the new street sign is planned for the fall.
