At a Plainview Water District Board of Commissioners public meeting held on Jan. 6, Marc Laykind was sworn in as commissioner for a three-year term. Laykind was elected to the post by the community during the district election held on Dec. 9.
Laykind was also inducted as secretary for 2015 at the meeting, during which Joel Kessler and Andrew Bader were inducted as chairman and treasurer, respectively.
“I am honored that the Plainview-Old Bethpage community has elected me to the position of Water District Commissioner,” said Laykind. “I pledge to carry out my responsibilities with the needs and interests of our community residents as my foremost concern.”
Laykind is an attorney in private practice with offices in New York City and Nassau County. He has been an active member in the Plainview-Old Bethpage community for 22 years, where he resides with his wife, Debbie, and sons, Matthew and Michael.
Laykind along with Bethpage Water District Commissioner John Sullivan, were also congratulated and welcomed into The Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners’ Association (NSWCA).
“The significance of commissioner-run districts is that they enable residents to express their opinions through voting while allowing them opportunity to participate in the democratic process on a hyper-local basis. Every vote in a water district election truly counts,” said NSWCA President Thomas P. Hand.
