The Division Avenue High School wrestling team placed second at the Ross Cordell Rotary Tournament in Oneonta, New York on January 3-4.
Wrestlers Francis Alexander, Chris Ponce and Ricky Stamm also won their respective weight classes.
“It felt really good to see our hard work payoff and see everyone perform very well at the tournament,” Stamm said. “We were fighting against the odds because we were only able to send 10 out of 14 competitors to wrestle.”
In addition, Francis Alexander won his 100th match during the tournament.
“It was a surprise,” Alexander said. “I knew I was close to my 100th win, but I didn’t know that was the match. I was caught a little off-guard.”
Coach Bob Bennett, Principal Joan Lorelli and Division Avenue students and staff congratulate the team and Francis Alexander on these notable athletic accomplishments.
