Nassau County Legislator Laura Schaefer recently facilitated a very generous donation to boost a local Westbury nonprofit organization. Schaefer coordinated with Matthew Berrell of The Fitness Resource in Plainview to meet the owners of the Westbury Boxing Club (WBC) on Post Avenue.
WBC is a nonprofit organization that provides a safe environment for youths and adults of all boxing skill levels to learn, train and “live” boxing. There are no membership dues or fees. The WBC is run by volunteers, Kevin Collins and Gerard Wilson, who give their time and talents to help those in the community who are looking to learn the sport of boxing, especially the youth of Westbury and the surrounding areas.
After being introduced by Schaefer, Berrell donated a variety of strength and cardio fitness equipment to WBC to further the efforts this great organization provides Nassau County residents. Berrell, who lives in Carle Place and grew up in Westbury, believes very strongly in the mission of the WBC and in giving back to the community.
“We are committed to helping our community organizations who provide a much needed service and a safe environment to promote a healthy and productive lifestyle,” Berrell said. “We are so ever grateful to work with Legislator Schaefer in helping the WBC to further enhance this amazing facility and their mission in my hometown.”
“The generosity and cooperation of these two organizations will help so many people for years to come,” said Schaefer. “It’s a great feeling to be able to foster a connection between good people who are just looking to do something to benefit the community, without the expectation of anything in return.”
